By creating an account or using the Can I Afford This app ("App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE

Can I Afford This is an educational financial planning tool that:

  • Provides calculations based on user-supplied financial data
  • Offers general financial rules-of-thumb and benchmarks
  • Generates projections using standard financial assumptions
  • Allows users to model various financial scenarios

THE APP DOES NOT PROVIDE FINANCIAL, INVESTMENT, TAX, OR LEGAL ADVICE.

3. EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE DISCLAIMER

3.1 No Financial Advice

The App provides educational information and self-directed financial modeling tools only. We do not:

  • Recommend specific investments or securities
  • Provide personalized financial advice
  • Suggest particular financial products or services
  • Make determinations about what you "should" do

3.2 User Responsibility

You acknowledge that:

4. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY FOR PROJECTIONS

THE APP PROVIDES ESTIMATES BASED ON USER-SUPPLIED DATA AND STANDARD ASSUMPTIONS. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF ANY RESULT. BY CONTINUING, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS MADE USING THE APP.

5. USER ACCOUNTS AND DATA

5.1 Account Creation

  • You must provide accurate email and password
  • You are responsible for maintaining account security
  • One account per person only

5.2 Your Financial Data

  • All financial data (income, expenses, assets, debts) is stored locally on your device
  • Only your email and password are stored on our servers
  • You can delete all local data by uninstalling the App

5.3 Data Accuracy

You represent that all financial information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

6. ACCEPTABLE USE

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or hack the App
  • Share your account credentials
  • Use the App to provide financial advice to others
  • Rely solely on the App for financial decisions

7. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

7.1 App Ownership

The App, including all code, design, and content (excluding your data), is owned by us and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

7.2 Your Data

You retain all rights to your financial data. By using the App, you grant us a limited license to process your data solely to provide the Service.

8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED (A) THE FEES YOU PAID US IN THE PRECEDING 12 MONTHS OR (B) USD $100 IF YOU USE THE FREE VERSION. WE DISCLAIM ALL CONSEQUENTIAL, INDIRECT, OR SPECIAL DAMAGES. THIS LIMIT DOES NOT APPLY TO GROSS NEGLIGENCE OR WILLFUL MISCONDUCT.

9. INDEMNIFICATION

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, or damages arising from:

  • Your use of the App
  • Your financial decisions
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any law or third-party rights

10. DISCLAIMERS

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING:

  • MERCHANTABILITY
  • FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
  • NON-INFRINGEMENT
  • ACCURACY OF RESULTS

11. CHANGES TO SERVICE

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify or discontinue the App at any time
  • Change features or functionality
  • Update these Terms with notice

12. TERMINATION

12.1 By You

You may terminate your account at any time by:

  • Deleting the App (removes all local data)
  • Contacting us to delete your account credentials

12.2 By Us

We may terminate or suspend your account for:

  • Violation of these Terms
  • Illegal or fraudulent activity
  • Extended inactivity

13. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

14. DISPUTE RESOLUTION

14.1 Informal Resolution

We will attempt to resolve disputes informally first.

14.2 Arbitration

Any disputes not resolved informally shall be resolved through binding arbitration under JAMS rules.

14.3 Class Action Waiver

You waive any right to bring claims as part of a class action.

15. GENERAL PROVISIONS

15.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us.

15.2 Severability

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

15.3 No Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right is not a waiver of that right.

16. PRIVACY AND DATA COLLECTION

Your use of the App and website is subject to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference into these Terms.
